Hopkins Continues ACT First-Timer’s Run with Oxford Victory

Oxford, ME — Hermon, ME’s Mike Hopkins stretched the streak of first-time American-Canadian Tour (ACT) winners to five straight events with a commanding victory at Maine’s Oxford Plains Speedway on Sunday, July 11. The reigning Pro All Stars Series (PASS) National Champion started on the pole of a 29-car field and stayed ahead of some wild action behind him for a wire-to-wire win at the Oxford 150.

In the process, Hopkins became the 83rd different winner in ACT Late Model Tour history. The series now has six different winners in six races at the season’s halfway mark.

ACT Season Gets Crossed Flags at Oxford This Sunday

Waterbury, VT — The American-Canadian Tour (ACT) makes its 37th visit to Maine’s Oxford Plains Speedway this Sunday, July 11. The Oxford 150 marks the official halfway point of the 2021 ACT Late Model Tour season as racers pursue the $10,000 championship prize.

The year so far has been one of one of the most unpredictable of the Tour’s 30-year history. ACT is riding a streak of four straight first-time winners in its highest sanctioned series, with Brooks Clark, Tom Carey II, D.J. Shaw, and Jimmy Renfrew Jr. all carrying checkered flags. At the same time, some of the region’s veterans such as Ben Rowe are showing they still have what it takes behind the wheel.

Waterbury, VT — The American-Canadian Tour (ACT) announced today that the Claude Leclerc 150 scheduled for Vallée-Jct., QC’s Autodrome Chaudiere on July 24 has been cancelled due to the ongoing United States-Canada border closure. Both series and track officials are hopeful the event can finally take place in 2022 after what is now a two-year hiatus.

Waterbury, VT — Even after a busy week in the New England Late Model Challenge Cup (NELMCC), two drivers continue to stand above the rest. Seekonk Speedway’s Gerry DeGasparre Jr. and White Mountain Motorsports Park’s Alby Ovitt sit one-two as the top weekly American-Canadian Tour (ACT) Late Model racers of 2021 thus far.

East Providence, RI’s DeGasparre, a seven-time Seekonk Speedway champion, has led the NELMCC standings for five of the last six weeks. Raymond, NH’s Ovitt, an 8-cylinder Street Stock legend in his first full season running Late Models at White Mountain, was the only driver to interrupt that streak. Both remain players in the battle for a $5,000 top prize plus contingency awards from Port City Racecars/Crazy Horse Racing, Five Star Race Car Bodies, and ARBodies.
