A recent rescheduling has set up the 41st Coca-Cola Labor Day Classic at Thunder Road to be one of the biggest weekends in the history of the event.

Officials from the Bullring Bash Quarter Mile Challenge Series recently announced that the “Rumble in the Quarry” Modified and Legend Car events at Thunder Road will now be held Sunday, September 1. The events were originally scheduled for Saturday, September 14, but have been moved due to a conflict with the Tri-Track Modified Series.

The addition of both events to the Labor Day Classic has created a massive weekend of racing to celebrate the end of summer at the “Nation’s Site of Excitement”. As a result, Labor Day weekend will now be a two-day event with six divisions of racing taking to the high banks, including the American-Canadian Tour (ACT) and all of Thunder Road’s weekly divisions.

“While we didn’t expect things to turn out this way, we’re excited that they did,” Thunder Road managing partner Cris Michaud said. “The Labor Day Classic has a long tradition going back to the very first year of racing at Thunder Road. Adding the Modifieds and Legend Cars to an already action-packed show really kicks things up a notch. It’s going to be a great way for our teams and fans to send off the summer in style.”

Saturday, August 31 will begin with optional open practice for the ACT Late Model Tour, Modifieds, and Legend Cars from 12:00pm to 3:35pm. Then at 6:00pm, Thunder Road presents a full card of racing for the Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers, Allen Lumber Street Stocks, and Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors. All three divisions will run extra-distance features at the special Saturday night show.

On Sunday, September 1 at 1:30pm, Thunder Road will host the ACT Coca-Cola Labor Day Classic 200 along with the 3-segment Rumble in the Quarry 125 for the Modifieds and the Rumble in the Quarry 35 for the Legend Cars. All three divisions will have full qualifying to go with their long-distance, added-purse main events.

Thunder Road officials expect to make additional announcements regarding the Saturday, September 14 Championship Night event in the coming days. While the Modifieds and Legend Cars will no longer be part of the program that night, the track is working on a card of racing that is fitting of being the final point-counting event of the season.
